A few folks have indicated some interest in seeing my cover design process. While I didn’t think to start saving sketch versions of the design for Werewolves in the Kitchen until I was pretty far along in the process, I thought it might be of interest to folks to see some of the final tweaks and changes.
How long does a cover take me?
Well…all told, probably anywhere from 10-30 hours, depending on what time you count. I spend literally dozens of hours poring over thousands of stock photos to find just the right photo/photos for the cover, but I’m also searching for stock photos for other projects, so that time is hard to track.
Below I have a progression showing some of my final changes. They may look like minor details, but the final fussing took me about five hours. I’ve also included a version of the cover without the text. I work in both Photoshop and Illustrator, so I do all my photo manipulation in Photoshop and then do all the text in Illustrator, mainly because I hate how Photoshop handles text.
I also have two versions of the final cover, one with a little blurb at the bottom, and one without.
Werewolves in the Kitchen will be out this weekend and I’ll post the links once they are available!
